Sarah: “Now I Can Relax”

Sarah found a fast track to a strong pelvic floor with Emsella®: “Now I can relax”

Sarah works as a health coach and invests a lot of time in her overall health. After three childbirths, she noticed that her pelvic floor muscles were not as responsive as they used to be.

– It wasn’t that I couldn’t hold it, but as soon as I exerted myself—running, jumping, or sneezing—I really had to hold back, clenching tightly to avoid leakage. I decided to address the problem, she explains.

Sarah underwent a course of six Emsella®-treatments at Hagabadet Haga’s VitalityLab.

– After just the second Emsella treatment, I had better control of my pelvic floor muscles, higher up and deeper inside. This, in turn, made my other exercises more effective, as the ‘mind-to-muscle’ connection was reactivated. Like all muscles, the pelvic floor needs regular training.

It is recommended to take a course of at least six Emsella treatments with four to five days in between for optimal effect.

– After having three children in a relatively short period, it’s no surprise that the pelvic floor needs reactivation. For me, it was a given to complete the entire recommended course. It takes some time, and I wanted to be patient and kind to my body.

During postnatal check-ups at the child health center, Sarah was advised to see a physiotherapist.

– No matter how much I struggle with Kegel exercises on my own, I can never reach the nearly 12,000 contractions that each Emsella treatment provides. Instead, I chose a fast track to a strong and functional pelvic floor.

Important to choose the right treatment method

HIFEM technology has been proven effective for urge and stress incontinence. The treatment offered at Hagabadet’s Vitality Lab is the Emsella® chair. Unlike some similar products, the technology in Emsella uses HIFEM, which many other marketed chairs do not use.

HIFEM (High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic) technology is a scientifically documented method for strengthening the pelvic floor. In a 28-minute treatment, HIFEM technology delivers up to 12,000 contractions in both the superficial and deep pelvic floor muscles.

– It’s good to know that there are other chairs that do not have the scientifically proven effect that HIFEM provides. Please contact us if you want to know more,” says Jessica Larning / Helene Johansson, Hagabadet.

“Three births have left their Mark”

Sarah has given birth to three children, but her first daughter died in the womb at 32 weeks of pregnancy

 – I delivered our angel baby vaginally in July 2019. Wilma is always with us in our lives, and I don’t shy away from talking about this; we say we have an angel child and two here on earth. As one of three vaginal births, it has also influenced my pelvic floor training.

Making the most of every opportunity for everyday exercise has become more important for Sarah since the children came.

 – My training is no longer so structured. Now I’ve incorporated exercise into daily life. For example, I’m often the only one doing lunges and push-ups at the playground. But every movement counts, and being able to play with the kids while I work out is perfect right now.”

“With a strong pelvic floor, I no longer feel limited”

Sarah is also aiming to get back into running, but she’s taking her time. Her core strength is gradually returning, both externally and internally. Now, she can run without tensing up.

– So far, I run on the treadmill, doing ten minutes at a time. The body needs time to find its shape. Now I can run without constantly having to clench to avoid leaking, which is a big step forward. I want to be able to move as I want, without limitations.

“It’s important to be able to relax while being relaxed – without leaking”

Being able to relax your pelvic floor, trusting that the muscles will do their job and hold tight, is important for the whole body.

– Before the Emsella course, I used to tense up during workouts. That wasn’t good and could have led to other problems in the long run. Now I can trust my pelvic floor and focus on my training, so I become stronger in my entire body. And I will continue to train my pelvic floor; it’s necessary for it to stay strong and functional, says Sarah.
